How did we get here?

Every writer's journey starts in a different place. Mine began with a tale I simply had to write down, and has taken me on a wild ride since then. I'm fascinated with history, science, and technology, but there is magic in the world, and it shows up in the most unlikely places. My stories try to capture a big picture view of how the modern era began.

When thinking about the the early modern era, the Renaissance immediately comes to mind, with images of the painting and sculpture from that era. But, as Patrick Wyman's fine book The Verge details, the world was changing in so many ways at that time.  Ambitious European sailors were mapping the world, Royal courts were slowly stealing power from the feudal lords. There were revolutions in banking, printing, and warfare.

The early modern era was an exciting, unsettled time, and I've found it a fun and fascinating place to set tales. I hope you enjoy!
